Mt. Wrightson

Mt. Wrightson

Date: April 2nd 2021

Location: South of Tucson AZ

Distance: 11.6 miles

Hiking Partners: Colin and Uncle J

On the path of the ten tallest peaks in AZ, Mt Wrightson made the list! This was a pretty cool hike. Well maintained trail through the forest that led to some great views at the top.

Right out of the gate, the trail begins to climb. Before ascending we came across a memorial on the trail. In 1958, six boy scouts left to hike Mt. Wrightson. 3 turned around and 3 kept going. The 3 that kept going got caught in a freak snowstorm and never made it off the mountain. This was November 15th 1958. Always sad to see memorials on the trail for fellow hikers.

Trail memorials are always a reminder that things happen, even to the most prepared.

On a lighter note, we hiked out the forest to an opening and saw our goal!

The trail started to loop around the backside of the mountain when we discovered snow!

Yes I threw a couple snowballs. I also went sledding a solid 5 feet. The snow was an unexpected treat!

We finally made it to the top!

Great views 360 degrees around. There was also another hiking group up their already and another one right behind us.

On the way down we saw this cool rock wedged in the cliff.

You can hike a trail a thousand times and there will always be something new. Keep your head on a swivel. You never know what you might see!

Thanks Mt. Wrightson! We'll be back another day!

Until Next Time!
