Bassett Peak Trail

This is one of the most beautiful changing leaves hikes in AZ. FR 151 and West Fork Oak Creek are great for easy access but if you really want to see some color you need to check out this trail. The first 3-4 miles follows along a creek that begins right at the trailhead. Be warned the road to get there is 4x4 accessible and I wouldn't recommend having any other vehicle back there. To our surprise there were tons of people on this trail at the start. For good reason as the colors were incredible.

The ground was covered in the already falling leaves.
Once past all the colors in the first 3-4 miles we started ascending to the top.
This trail is great at the bottom but once you start to ascend the trail changes dramatically. You begin to climb steeply into switch backs. The trail itself was pretty well maintained. Everyone was looking out for cairns and pink flags that marked the trail. Some sections were quite dangerous as they were very slippery with loose rocks and scree. At these parts of the trail these sections would drop off a cliff as well so everyone really needed to watch their footing. Once we got up to the top we were greeted by another hiking group. Funny story, Colin had found this hike from a random post of Reddit from a few years back. It turns out, the guy who posted this hike on Reddit was part of the group who were already at the top! Small world!
As we descended to the bottom we found one more awesome place to take our last picture of the hike. A little side canyon with tons of great colors.
