Father Son Bartlett Lake Paddle Trip

Bartlett Lake

Date: May 15th 2021

Location: 1 hour outside of Phoenix AZ

Distance: 5 miles

Kayaking Partner: Dad

It's that time of year when us Phoenicians head out to the lakes to cool off in the water. The nice thing is Bartlett lake is really close by! Throw on the kayaks and an hour or so later we are on the water. Growing up on this lake I knew just about how far we would get up the lake with the current water levels. We would either make it to the Elephant Graveyard or to the entrance of Sheep's Spring. We made it to the Elephant Graveyard. The Elephant Graveyard is about 2.5 miles back from one of the further back camps at Bartlett Flatts. It has one of the nicest easily accessible beaches at Bartlett near two giant rocks in the middle of the lake. Once you land on the beach, it looks like a normal beach until you walk up the hill. During low water levels you'll find a huge area on the other side covered in dead trees that is not visible when you land. Hence the name Elephant Grave Yard. My dad and I landed our kayaks and walked up the river to check out how the lake had changed since we were last there. Not a ton of changes but there were some. We jumped back into our kayaks and headed to a shady spot for lunch and a swim.

If you look closely....both my Dad and I are in the water.

This was a nice day yak with my dad and a well deserved break to enjoy nature.

Until Next Time!
